Sinopsis

Superb colour reproductions of Paul Gauguin's art and numerous additional items like sketches, carvings, and photographs make this catalogue for a joint exhibit of the Tate Modern in London and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. a particularly fine resource for the expatriate French artist. In seven essays, the authors offer a major re-evaluation of Gauguin, presenting the artist and his work in entirely new light and tracing where the vivid, non-natural colours and bold outlines of his imagery had a profound effect on 20th-century art. This book also cuts through the mystique surrounding Gauguin one the artist himself cultivated to explore the nature of his self-mythologised image
